REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Dumai city police seized counterfeit banknotes worth some Rp500 million. Police also arrested two men, only identified by their initials as MF, 28, and RW, 33, for possession of fake money, a police officer stated.
The two suspects might have been assisted by a policeman in circulating the counterfeit banknotes of Rp100 thousand denomination, Dumai City Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Restika Nainggolan stated here on Friday.
"We have confiscated the counterfeit banknotes. Our investigators attempt to uncover the alleged involvement of a policeman in this crime," Nainggolan remarked, adding that MF resided in Dumai, while RW was a resident of Bengkalis District.
The city's police officers were able to apprehend the suspects after receiving a tip-off that MF would keep a large amount of counterfeit banknotes. MF was then arrested at his house in Dumai sometime this week, he noted.
MF confessed to police investigators that he had obtained the fake money from RW, alias Adi, a resident of Jangkang Village, Bantan Sub-district, Bengkalis District, Riau Province.
The police seized the counterfeit banknotes of Rp100,000 denomination, worth Rp479.3 million, from RW, while the alleged involvement of a policeman is being investigated, he added.
