Police to deploy 220 personnel to guard Tour de Singkarak

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAINAN -- The Pesisir Selatan Police will deploy 220 personnel to guard the international bicycle race -- Tour de Singkarak (TDS) -- in West Sumatra, which will be held on October 3.

The securing of TDS will be carried out from the start line at the Carocok Beach in Painan, at crossroads, and at vulnerable spots along the cycling track during the first stage in Painan-Padang, Chief Pesisir Selatan Police Adjunct, Senior Commissioner Deni Yuhasdi said on Tuesday.

The police will be assisted by a number of military personnel, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and the local district transportation department officials.

"They will be joined during the first stage of TDS 2015, from the start line in Painan to the borders of Pesisir Selatan-Padang," Yuhasdi pointed out.

The police will also conduct special security in the parking area of Carocok Beach, with a third of the personnel being stationed on duty.

Meanwhile, the local government is working to improve the roads and the installation of signs at vulnerable points along the cycling tracks.

The grand start of Tour de Singkarak 2015, which will be held in Pesisir Selatan, is expected to develop tourism opportunities and increase tourist visits, an official said.
