REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) will pay dividends from the 2020 net profit. The performance of BRI, which is majority owned by the state (BUMN), has not been significantly affected in the midst of the corona virus pandemic.

BRI's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders approved the distribution of this dividend. BRI will distribute dividends of Rp12 trillion or 65 percent of BRI's total net profit last year of Rp18.65 trillion.

Deputy Director of BRI Catur Budi Harto said that the dividend from BRI's net profit, which belongs to the state as the holder of 56.75 percent of shares, is worth Rp 6.88 trillion.

"Dividends will be paid proportionately whose names are listed on the list of shareholders on the date of recording. The rest will be determined as retained earnings," said Catur during a virtual press conference, Thursday (25/3).

Throughout 2020, BRI recorded a net profit of Rp 18.65 trillion. This figure has decreased 45.46 percent from the same period the previous year, Rp34.37 trillion.

The decline in profit was due to a three percent decrease in net interest income to Rp79.21 trillion as of December 31, 2020.

The company's net interest margin (NIM) ratio also fell 5.86 percent in December 2020.

"The year of 2020 is a challenging period for the economy of Indonesia and the world. The pandemic brings fundamental changes to social, health and economy," said Catur.
