Yogyakarta prepares aid for orphans

Several corporations and social institutions are willing to provide aid.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- The Yogyakarta City Government has prepared an aid scheme for orphans due to the loss of their parents who died due to Covid-19. Deputy Mayor of Yogyakarta, Heroe Poerwadi said, the government involved corporations and social institutions to help orphans.

"So far, we have anticipated (intervention) for orphans whose parents died due to exposure to Covid-19. We have prepared several schemes," said Heroe in Yogyakarta, Monday (30/8).

Heroe said the aid was planned to be provided on an ongoing basis. Currently, there are several corporations and social institutions that are willing to provide aid.

"The form of assistance is being formulated and involves many parties, including preparing scholarship programs and various things to help children," he said, who is also the Daily Chair of the Yogyakarta City Covid-19 Handling Task Force.

Psychological assistance to children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 has also been carried out since last July. Based on data from the Yogyakarta City Office of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB), a total of 248 children lost their parents due to Covid-19.

The head of the Yogyakarta City DP3AP2KB, Edy Muhammad, said that of the total, around 22 children lost both their parents. Meanwhile, the rest lost one of their parents.
