REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Oxford United has officially announced its participation in the 2025 President's Cup. Oxford announced the announcement on its official Instagram page on Sunday (15/6/2025).
“Officially, Oxford United will compete in the 2025 President's Cup in Indonesia. This is the first time clubs from outside Indonesia have been invited to compete in the pre-season competition! Six teams have been invited,” Oxford's statement wrote.
Oxford will compete with Arema FC, Dewa United, Liga Indonesia All-Stars, Persib Bandung, and Thai Port FC. These six teams were divided into two groups. Oxford and Thai Port will not be in the same team.
Oxford's announcement confirms PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir's statement on Friday (13/6/2025) during the 2025 Presidents Cup press conference. The 2025 Presidents Cup committee for the first time invited outside clubs to take part.
According to Erick, the move is in appreciation that overseas clubs are also investing in Indonesian players.
“At Thai Port FC there is Asnawi Mangkualam and at Oxford United there is Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan,” Erick said of being invited by two clubs from abroad.
