REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) stated, the digital financial asset of crypto industry in the country is experiencing a different trend, where the number of users or investors rises but the value of crypto transactions actually falls.
“Digital financial assets of cryptocurrencies, from existing data, the number of customers registered as investor still on an upward trend. Meanwhile, the transaction value of crypto assets has a downward trend,” said Hasan Fawzi, Chief Executive Officer of ITSK Financial Sector Technology Innovation Supervisor, Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets (IAKD) of OJK, during the Press Conference on OJK Financial Services Sector Assessment and Policy Monthly results of October 2023, Monday (30/10/2023).
As for, based on data up to September 2023, the number of customers registered in crypto assets amounted to 17.91 million customers.
“As of September 2023, the value of crypto asset transactions in Indonesia was recorded to accumulate at Rp 94.4 trillion, with the number of registered customers in crypto assets amounting to 17.91 million customers,” Hasan said.
Based on the data presented by Hasan, the growth in the number of crypto asset customers in Indonesia has continued to increase from 11.2 million people or investors at the end of 2021, to have increased to 16.7 million investors by the end of 2022.
This is in contrast to the value of crypto transactions that continue to show a decline. OJK noted that in 2021, the transaction value of crypto assets in Indonesia reached a fairly high figure of Rp 859.4 trillion. However, in 2022 the value of such transactions decreased dramatically to Rp 306.4 trillion.
“This decline might be a reflection of the growing public understanding or literacy about personal risk profile among investors,” Hasan said.
