REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) carried out the groundbreaking or laying of the first stone of the construction of the State Mosque in the capital of Nusantara (IKN) on Wednesday (17/1/2024). The State Mosque has a capacity of up to 61 thousand worshippers. The mosque building will also be surrounded by water and will be made artificial bubbles.
“So I imagine this mosque is a mosque that will be very beautiful from the outside and will also be very beautiful inside,” Jokowi said in his speech.
In addition to the State Mosque, various other places of worship will also be built in this area such as cathedral churches, monasteries, temples, and temples. Various places of worship to be built in the IKN area show that Indonesia is a diverse country, but still maintains its harmony and unity.
Jokowi said that the construction of the State Mosque requires a budget of Rp 940 billion. “This mosque will be very big. And this mosque is also equipped with regional infrastructure such as landscape, utility area of course roads and bridges and was built approximately 400 calendar days,” he explained.
Construction of the mosque is targeted to be completed by the end of this year. Jokowi also hopes that the National Mosque will represent Indonesia's prosperity and become a means to increase faith and taqwa in Allah SWT.
“A comfortable place for Muslims to perform various religious and other social activities and is a symbol for strengthening religious tolerance and moderation in our archipelago capital,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi wants this State Mosque to also display the uniqueness of Indonesia as well as IKN. “I want this mosque to be built to be an example of the country's mosques in the world and showcase the uniqueness of Indonesia, display the uniqueness of the capital of the archipelago,” he explained.
