REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DEPOK -- The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Indonesia's (UI) currently has 24 smart classrooms, following the inauguration of four more smart classrooms on Thursday.

According to UI rector Ari Kuncoro, the smart classrooms would not only improve learning quality, but also promote inclusivity for various groups of students.

The university is committed to creating a learning environment that supports students' self-development, and the smart classrooms would encourage students' active engagement in the learning process, he explained.

Thanks to the availability of interactive devices, the students will be able to collaborate, share ideas, and develop digital skills that modern job markets highly need, Kuncoro said.

"Thus, the smart classrooms will not only create an inclusive environment, but they will also help the students get prepared for future challenges," he added.

The four newly completed smart classrooms, provided by donors, are located at the UI Faculty of Engineering's Joint Lecture Building S and K. Each classroom can seat 40–60 students, he said.

Meanwhile, the dean of UI's Faculty of Engineering, Heri Hermansyah, said that the smart classrooms are not only equipped with multimedia technology, but can also function as access points for students across Indonesia.

"By using multimedia technology, students from different parts of Indonesia, including the frontier, outermost, and remote regions, can more easily get access to (UI) course materials," he said.

The UI's Faculty of Engineering has been revitalizing its traditional classrooms and converting them into smart classrooms since 2019, he informed. It has set a target of creating 50 smart classrooms before 2025, he added.
