REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Democratic Party General Chairman, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) held a meeting with the leader of the party emblazoned with the star of mercy. One of the stories was about his inclusion as a minister from the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The Democratic Party has taken a position in opposition for nine years, four months. During that time, there were limitations that he remembered when taking on roles outside of government.

“Of course there are a lot of our limitations as an opposition outside the government. We can only appeal, we can only remind, we can only criticize, but we cannot execute,” AHY said in a speech at the DPP office of the Democratic Party, Jakarta, Friday (8/3/2024).

“Only those in the executive branch can execute the pro-people policies and programs that Democrats have been fighting for,” he added.

He revealed the many heartaches and tribulations that the Democratic Party experienced during taking on the role of the position. He was eventually appointed by Jokowi as Minister of Agrarian and Space/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).

He himself noted that there were allusions to the Democratic Party, what he could contribute during his eight months in the Cabinet of Indonesia Forward. However, according to him, the quality of the work cannot be seen only by the duration of the time.

“Maybe you heard someone say, 'Ahh Democrats are only eight months, what do you want eight months? ' Well if I'm one of those people who never look at that time from the quantity, but from the quality side,” AHY said.

He confirmed that now the Democratic Party has taken a role in Jokowi's government until October 20. The cause is also supported by the people who support the party emblazoned with the star of mercy.

“This is what we fought for from the beginning, right, Mr./Mom? We are fighting to be able to play a role in government. So de jure and de facto, today Democrats since February 21 are in the government of the Cabinet of Indonesia Maju,” AHY said.
