REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The results of the latest poll by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) place the Attorney General as the most trusted legal institution of the public followed by public trust higher than other legal institutions.
LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan said the level of public confidence in the Prosecutor was at 74 percent, outperforming the Constitutional Court, courts, police, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“The prosecutor's office has become the most trusted legal institution by the public,” Djayadi said when presenting the results of a survey titled Public Attitudes towards KPU's Verdicts, Court Proceedings, and National Issues monitored online from Jakarta, Thursday (18/4/2024).
In the list of public confidence in legal institutions, under the Prosecutor there is the Court with 73 percent. Then, the Court 71 percent, the Police 70 percent, and the KPK in last place with 63 percent.
On the other hand, in the findings of the LSI, the performance of the Prosecutor in investigating corruption cases received much public appreciation. LSI's findings, the level of public confidence in the Prosecutor is now at 74 per cent, there is quite a significant increase.
“The courage of the Prosecutor in dismantling large and high profile cases, earned the appreciation and support of the public,” he said.
In the LSI's findings, the Public Trust of the Prosecutor as of February 2024 was only 67 percent. Now, in the latest findings, the figure is 74 percent.
According to him, the courage of the Prosecutor in prosecuting mega-corruption cases elicited a lot of support from the public. Djayadi exemplified the case of mining corruption in PT Timah, with a loss value of IDR 271 trillion.
“The prosecutor's courage in pursuing high profile cases, inflicting large, supersized losses, certainly arouses public support and confidence,” Djayadi said.
The LSI survey was in the time span of April 7 to 9, 2024 with 1,213 respondents interviewed by telephone. The margin of error is estimated to be approximately 2.9 percent at a confidence level of 95 percent.
