REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Myanmar immigrants clashed in Immigrant Detention House in Medan, North Sumatera. Eight people died and were taken to Pirngadi Hospital, while the wounded were interrogated in Belawan Police Resort. Police are still investigating the case.

"They looked losing their temper. We believe that the clash was incited by religious issue," Public Relations at Directorate General of Immigration, Heriyanto, said on Friday.

He mentioned that the clash was started when two groups got in a fight. But later on, it involved all immigrants in the detention house. Police is investigating the cause and searching for a person who provoked the clash.

However, Heriyanto also said that the clash might be due to overcapacity at the detention house. There are 280 Myanmar immigrants in the detention.

Belawan Police Resort are beefing up the security and repairing the damage building. "The situation has been calmed down," he said.
