REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Muslim activists are expected to lead youths in ASEAN Community in 2015, according to Minister of Rural Development, Helmy Faisal Zaini in an event held by Central Board of Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PB PMII).
"Young Islamic activists must be able to take advantage of this opportunity to lead young people of ASEAN Community in 2015," Zaini said in a closing ceremony of ASEAN +9 Youth Assembly for ASEAN Community 2015 in Jakarta, recently.
As the most populous country with majority of Muslims, Indonesia has many opportunities to unite social political understanding among young people in ASEAN. They are potential to help resolving conflict among countries, both in social and border issues.
Zaini pointed out issues of Indonesia-Malaysia border conflicts and ethnic violence Rohingya in Myanmar. Young people are expected to play important role in understanding the issues.
About 72 youth activists from nine ASEAN and nonASEAN countries (Russia, Pakistan, China, United States, Japan, South Korea, India, the European Union and East Timor) joined a declaration in ASEAN 9 Youth Assembly for ASEAN Community 2015. The declaration discussed important issues to face ASEAN Community, such as political security in community region, social cultural and role of ASEAN youth.
