REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia and China will soon conduct maritime cooperation as a part of strategic partnership of both countries. Both are planning to establish a Maritime Cooperation Commission (MCC).

"The first meeting of the commission will be held soon. Representatives from ten ministries of the two countries are expected to take part in the upcoming meeting. Among the ministries are the foreign affairs, marine affairs and fisheries, defense, and transportation," China’s Ambassador to Indonesia Liu Jianchao said on Tuesday.

The aim of the meeting is to improve the cooperation between Indonesia and China, such as in the maritime infrastructure, research on technology, maritime security, and maritime protection. China’s government, Liu said, prepared 150 million USD for this commission.

The establishment of the commission was agreed by the both leaders in March 2012. The commission will be co-chaired by each minister for foreign affairs.
