Prepaid electricity creates smart customers in Miangas

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned electricity company, PT PLN, succesfully operates prepaid electricity in Miangas, an outer island of Indonesia located near the border between Indonesia and Filipina. 

Prepaid electricity has now been used 100 percent in the island. PLN in North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo has approximately 200 customers in Miangas Island. Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) granted MURI award to PLN as the initiator of smart electricity in the island.

Operation Director of PLN to East Indonesia, Vicker Sinaga said PLN also built hybrid plant in Miangas. "PLN have the responsibility to help drive development in Indonesia, particularly electricity sector, included Miangas Island who became face of Indonesia on the northern side," he said on recently.

The island has only population of 678 people. The electricity obtained from  three power plants, solar power plant with a capacity of 85 kilowatts peak (kWp), biomass or coal power plant with a capacity of 40 kilowatts (kW) and diesel power plant (diesel) with a capacity of 2x40 kilo Watt (kW).
