REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina wants to develop gas project at border of Papua New Guinea (PNG). President Director of Pertamina, Karen Agustiawan said that the gas potential in PNG was quite large.

"Prior to exploration, Pertamina will study the potential gas in border region by working closely with government of PNG," Agustiawan said on Wednesday.

Business delegation from PNG had visited Jakarta on Tuesday. Pertamina would start from zero to manage the area and offer a research center and seismic interpretation's software to PNG.

As an initial step Pertamina will conduct geological surveys before it assigns its subsidiaries, Elnusa, to hold a seismic activation and drilling. The project then will be evaluated by joint team.
