REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia will take part in the Street Child World Cup 2014 in Brazil for the first time and the team will compete with 13 other countries. Committee of Street Child World Cup 2014 in the United Kingdom (UK) officially appointed Transmuda Energy Nusantara Foundation as official organizer for Indonesian team.
"This program is called New Garuda Road to Rio 2014 and supported by a number of social activists who usually deal with street children, school football and young volunteers to provide guidance. Win or lose is not our main goal. We target them to inspire and become role models for other kids after returning from Brazil," Representative of Transmuda Energy Nusantara Foundation, Mahir, said on Saturday.
This program aims to attract young people to become pioneer and embrace the street children to involve them in sports. The program doesn't limited to Brazil's progam. New Garuda will continue assistance to street children, including in academic and non-academic counseling.
Scholarships will be provided for street children drop out of school. Every child will get counseling for a year so they can learn to be self-sufficient and not to return to the streets.
Those children will be taken from seven provinces in Indonesia, consist of Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and East Java. The selection process will begin in November and December 2013. Each province can send no more than ten people for the process.
