REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian export value of wooden furniture is very promising. Ministry of Industry, MS Hidayat said that government targeted wooden furniture exports would increase from 1.26 billion USD in 2013 to five billion USD in next five years.

The five year target is believed to be achieved by government with good raw materials in Indonesia, like mahagony, teak and rattan, which are dominated in Indonesian forests. Chairman of Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Association (AMKRI) Soenoto said that this country has great potential in wicker and wood processing industries.

"About 90 percent of wicker and wood processing products in the world come from Indonesia," Soenoto said recently as reported by Zaky Al Hamzah.

Soenoto said that Indonesia should continue to explore its islands in terms of wood materials, such as Papua, Enggano, Ambon, Aceh and West Nusa Tenggara. The problem is the implementation of timber legality verification (SVLK). There are only 500-700 out of 5,000 exporters having SVLK. This requirement is still an obstacle for enterpreneurs as many of them are not yet ready for it.
