REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Revitalization of one of four fertilizer plants of the state-owned fertilizer company PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja in Palembang, South Sumatra, has been 95 percent completed.

Construction of the new factory replacing the company's oldest factory Pusri B2 started in April 2013.

There was almost no hurdle in the process of construction that progress in the implementation has been up to target, company's president director Musthofa said here on Monday.

Therefore, the falling value of rupiah against the US dollar has no effect on the process of development as there is no more materials to be imported, he said.

Currently PT Pusri has four factories with a total production capacity of 2.262 million tons a year.

However, the company has not been able to operate at full capacity in the past several years because of the factories have been too old and less productive.

The four factories average 35 years in age as against an ideal age of not more than 20 years.

The youngest in age is Pusri IB which was built in 1994.

The company, therefore, plans the revitalization by replacing the four factories by phases starting with Pusri 2 B the oldest which was built in 1974.

The revitalization is being carried out by a consortium of PT Rekayasa Industri and Toyo Engineering Corporation at a cost of Rp7.4 trillion.

Pusri 2B was built with the technology of KBR Purifier Technology, for ammonia plant and Aces 21 technology of Toyo and Pusri as the co-licencor for the urea factory.

The production capacity of the ammonia plant is 2,000 tons per day or 660,000 tons per year and the production capacity of the urea plant is 2,750 tons per day or 907,500 tons per year.

The new factory is expected to be operational in 2015, Musthofa said.
