REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAMUJU — Road access connecting West Sulawesi Province to South Sulawesi is about to be opened in 2012. West Sulawesi Governor, Anwar Adnan Saleh said government would construct the road from Mamuju County across Mamasa (West Sulawesi) to Tanatoraja County in South Sulawesi.

According to him, the Trans Sulawesi Road which lied in Sulawesi coast line could not accommodate the economic activities in the area. The new road is expecting to speed up the local economic growth and development.

“The government determines to finish the work this year,” Saleh said.

The 126 kilometers road will cost 970 billion rupiah of 2012’s state budget. The cost is enormous because the street is specifically design for mountainous structure. The road is predicted to be able to use up to 30 years because it is made of concrete.

“The government always repair the Trans Sulawesi Road,” Saleh said added that the road frequently damaged by landslide and rain. He hopes the isolated community in West Sulawesi will be able to use the road, particularly for economic activities to increase people's welfare.
