World Bank and Ahok reach agreement on JEDI project

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KEBON SIRIH - Country Director of World Bank to Indonesia, Stefan Koeberle meets with Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (known his nickname as Ahok) in Jakarta on Tuesday. The World Bank finally agrees to give loan to Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiative (JEDI) amounts 1.2 trillion IDR.

Jakarta provincial government previously withdrew from the loan aggrement as it has complicated clauses. There were two clauses rejected by government. First, time to dredging would set for five years. Second, it mentioned that provincial government should ensured the right of people at the riverbank by giving them compensation.

"But now, World Bank agrees to extend the borrowing requirements for two years. We are confident before the rainy season, JEDI project, consists of flood management and channel dredging will begin," Koeberle said on Tuesday.

Stefan said he had discussed support for flood management in Jakarta. Principally, World Bank shares the same common ground on the importantce of quick implement the dredging process.

Koeberle claimed his support and not impede flood management program. He demands transparency regarding relocation of 13 rivers to be dredged.
