Former aide of Soekarno to head People Consulative Assembly

Sidarto Danusubroto, the new Chairman of Indonesian People Consultative Assembly (MPR)

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) appointed Sidarto Danusubroto as Chairman of Indonesian People Consultative Assembly (MPR), to replace the late Taufiq Kiemas. 

"Chairman of PDI-P announced a senior member of party, Mr Danusoebroto as Chairman of Assembly," Secretary General of PDI-P, Tjahjo Kumolo said on Friday.

Danusoebroto is one of senior figures of PDI-P. He once was personal aide of Soekaro, the first President of Indonesia, who also the father of Chairwoman of PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Democratic Party a the ruling party responded positively towards the appointment of Danusoebroto. Chariman of Democratic Party Faction in parliament, Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, is optimistic that Danusoebroto will maintain harmony between all parties at the Assembly.
