REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - It was time for Indonesia to move towards becoming a progressive nation under the guidance of an ethical leader, Peoples Conscience (Hanura) party leader Wiranto said during his campaign on Tuesday.

"We have to change because the state has an idea and the people have hopes. This change needs a spotless, honest, and resolute leader with good conscience," Wiranto said while campaigning at Pancasila sport stadium here on Tuesday.

He criticized that Indonesia was a sovereign independent country but not completely self-reliant including in food sector. The reitred general also cited that that there were many conflicts and divisions in various parts of the country. Therefore, he noted, Indonesia needed a capable leader to unite all people, uphold the law and work towards public welfare.

Wiranto claimed that there were no corruption cases against his party. He also noted that for the past eight years, various survey institutes and observers had attested to Hanura's reputation as a corruption-free party.

"To be a spotless party is extremely difficult, but for Hanura, this has become possible because the cadres are guided by their conscience," Wiranto said.
