REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAGELANG - Unimog vehicles used by demonstrators outside the Constitutional Court (MK) building in Jakarta where a hearing was held over dispute on presidential election result, did not belong to the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), a military commander said.

"It is impossible for the military personnel to have participated in the recent demonstrations," TNI Chief General Moeldoko noted on Tuesday.

Three units of Unimog cars are now being held by the police because they were suspected to have committed violation by pushing into the Medan Merdeka Barat Street where the MK was hearing the presidential election dispute on August 21, 2014. Police claimed that the three Unimog cars had destroyed the barbed wires used to barricade the road leading to the MK building.

General Moeldoko said Unimogs belonging to the TNI were not allowed for activities outside the military barracks, let alone if used for demonstration purposes. He pointed out that most of the TNI Unimogs had been damaged due to old age. Referring to the Unimogs used during the rally outside the MK building, the TNI commander said his institution has completely left the issue in the hands of the police.

"If the vehicles belong to hoodlums, then the police will have to handle it. Unimogs belonging to the military are not allowed (for use in such activities)," General Moeldoko stressed.

Supporters of one of the presidential candidates had conducted a rally outside the MK building during the hearing. The rally was marked by a brief incident following the attempt by the Unimogs to push their way into the Merdeka Barat Street, which resulted in damage to the barbed wire barricades.
