REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Due to security reasons, the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, has evacuated 36 Indonesians employed as cleaning staff by the country's Alebda Catering Company.

According to an official statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made available to Antara on Monday, the evacuation was carried out on September 3 due to deteriorating security and political conditions in Libya.

Although the staff had just worked from March to August or six months, the company agreed to let them return to Indonesia after a series of negotiations, noted the embassy.

During the evacuation, the workers crossed over into Tunisia by road through the Ras Jedir border and travelled to the Tunisian capital, Tunis, before being flown back to Indonesia.

Last Wednesday's evacuation is the sixth of its kind to be carried out by the embassy. Since July 29, the embassy had successfully evacuated 171 Indonesians comprising 88 men and 83 women from the country paralyzed by the ongoing fighting between militias in Tripoli and Benghazi and the high crime rate.

Indonesian Ambassador Raudin Anwar expressed gratitude for the success of this operation. He also proposed that job seekers find a safe country, which offers legal protection to migrant workers.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli continues to actively monitor, search, and urge Indonesians to join the evacuation process due to Libya's political instability and dangerous security conditions.
