REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that the annual event of Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) will be continued by new government of Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Jusuf Kalla. According to Deputy Chairman of BDF Committee VII Wahid Supriyadi, BDF - which took place since 2008 - got a lot of attention by the increasing number of participants, which now has reached 85 countries.

"We hope that this event can be continued by next government because it is good for Indonesian diplomacy," Supriyadi said on Thursday.

BDF is not only followed by countries that already run democratic system, but also countries,which are heading to democratic process. BDF is followed by countries in Asia Pacific region, state observers, as well as eight international organizations.

"There are three heads of states definitely going to this forum, namely President of Philippines, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam and Prime Minister of Democratic Republic of Timor Leste," Supriyadi added.

BDF 2014 will be held on Oct 10-11, 2014 in Bali International Convention Center (BICC) with theme of 'Evolving Regional Democratic Architecture: The Challenges of Political Development, Public Participation, and Socio-Economic Progress in the 21st Century.' In the two day meeting, all leaders and delegations from various countries will discuss several topics, such as challenges of political development and socio-economic progress in Asia Pacific region.
