REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo is expected to choose clean figures for his future cabinet, the executive director of PolcoMM Institute, Heru Budianto, said here on Tuesday (21/10).

"People pin their hope on President Jokowi (Joko Widodo) with regard to the selection of ministers who are expected to be clean, competent and aspiring," he said at a discussion on "Developing Healthy Synergy between the Government and the Parliament,"

Heru praised Jokowi's initiative to ask the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to help check the track records of candidates.

He said the decision would help reduce the possibilities of his government being held hostage later by ministers' bad track records.

"It would now depend on Jokowi whether or not he would take the KPK recommendations and use its indicators," he said.

He said he hoped Jokowi would really choose figures who are realy clean and have high integrity.

"He must avoid those implicated in corruption cases or those have become witnesses or been associated with corruption cases," he said.

Heru also said that Jokowi would not select a figure who follows neo-liberalism to be a member of his cabinet because this figure would prioritize global markets rather than the people and nationalism.

President Jokowi who was inaugurated on Monday has submitted a list of candidates to KPK to have their track records checked, which the KPK has already returned with red and yellow marks put on names considered to have potential to be named suspects in corruption cases.

The president has not yet decided when he would announce his cabinet but he has revealed it would be done at the earliest.
