REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- Criminologist of University of Indonesia Rony Rahman Nitibaskara, will participate to handle murder cases of Engeline Margriet Megawe (Angeline). The body of an eight-year-old girl from Denpasar was found buried in the backyard of her foster mother's house on last June, 10.
Chief of Bali Regional Police, Inspector General of Police, Ronny F Sompie, said cooperation with the criminologist is expected to accelerate the process of police investigation.
"He is a competent expert to read the statements of the suspects. Strengthening of an expert will strengthen the process of investigation in the search for new evidence," said Ronny in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday, June 18.
Rony will help to analyze all information of suspect scientifically. Without scientific evidence, the information was definitely refuted in the court. The suspect must be proved by evidence that was clear, not just based on mere recognition.
Under article 184 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), said Ronny, the scientific evidence is documentary evidence, instructions, expert testimony, until witness testimony. In addition to the expert witnesses, Bali Regional Police was also using a lie detector on the suspect, Margriet Christina Megawe as Engeline’s foster mother, and Agus Tai Hamdamai as Engeline’s murder suspect.
A witness, a man with the initials AA who introduced Agus to be Magriet’s maid, has also been tested of his statement with lie detector. Currently, both biological daughter of Margriet, Yvonne Caroline Megawe and Christina Tely Megawe, were undergoing examination at Bali police headquarters accompanied by their lawyer, Hotma Sitompoel. Margriet’s status has been raised as a suspect in a case of her adoptive child neglect during Engeline’s lifetime.
