REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The World Food Programme (WFP) is supporting and cooperating with the Indonesian government to achieve food security and overcome the issue of malnutrition in the country, Executive Director of WFP Ertharin Cousin stated.

"The vice president and I met to discuss these issues, and we also spoke about cooperation to handle the nutrition problem faced by the country," Cousin noted after meeting the vice president here to launch the "Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas" on Wednesday.

The atlas comprises a record of the government's achievements with regard to food security and recognizes the challenges to be faced in overcoming nutrition-related problems.

The atlas shows that vulnerability to food insecurity experienced by 398 rural areas in Indonesia reduced to 15 percent in 2015 as compared to 22 percent recorded a decade ago.

"I have faith in the commitment I heard today that we will be successful in overcoming nutritional problems across the country," he emphasized.

Cousin pointed out that improving the government's capacity will help in meeting the food needs and addressing nutrition-related problems.

Moreover, Vice President Jusuf Kalla noted that the WFP had been cooperating with Indonesia to achieve food security.

The government is now investing its resources and is actively participating to achieve the global Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to realize the global project named "zero hunger."
