REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LANGKAT -- Police of Langkat, North Sumatra arrested a farmer, allegedly attempting to transport 20kg of marijuana from Takengon in Aceh to Medan in North Sumatra.
Head of Langkat Resort Police Office Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dwi Asmoro said here on Monday that the suspect was arrested on board a public bus with the illicit goods.
The suspect, whose initial is AW (48), is a resident of Takengon of Central Aceh District.
The police stopped a public bus Atlas, of which registration plate is BL 7507 G, when it passed in front of a police traffic post at Sei Karang at 05.30 a.m. and conducted a search over its passengers.
"When we examined AW's bags, we found 15kg of marijuana in a blue bag, and another five kilogram neatly wrapped on a brown bags by the suspect," Asmoro said.
The suspect has been arrested and being interrogated for the possession of the illicit weed.
The police found that AW bought the marijuana in Takengon for Rp150,000 (around 11 US Dollar) per kilogram.
He was asked to bring the marijuana to Medan and someone would wait him at the Atlas bus terminal.
"I sell the marijuana to the buyer for Rp600,000 per kilogram," AW said.
The police said that the suspect is facing a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment.
