REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUTA -- Crew members of airlines will have to undergo urine tests during the Lebaran Islamic holiday season to see if any of them use drugs, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has confirmed.
"Urine tests will go on. We will make the schedule," the minister said after inspecting the Lebaran or Eid El Fitr operations at Ngurah Rai International Airport here, Saturday.
He has issued instructions on the obligation of airline crew members to undergo urine tests, he said.
Such tests had been conducted in Malang, but he did not want to reveal the results.
"Urine tests were done in Malang. The results have not yet been released," he stated.
The crew has to undergo the tests just before the plane's departure. If the result is positive, the departure has to be cancelled.
The urine test is to ensure the safety of Lebaran travelers.
