REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GOWA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) distributed thousands of social assistance cards in Gowa District of South Sulawesi Province. The president and First Lady Iriana undertook a working visit to Gowa District on Thursday.
At least 1,500 people from various area of South Sulawesi received Indonesian Conditional Cash Transfer Program cards. The president has urged the people to utilize funds from the program to meet nutritional requirements and fulfill educational necessities.
"The husband cannot use the cash from the program to buy cigarettes. Cash from the program is aimed at fulfilling educational necessities and nutritional requirements," Jokowi noted.
The president also distributed 1,690 Indonesia Clever Cards to students in South Sulawesi.
The government is distributing the cards to students in elementary, junior, and senior high schools as well as vocational schools and as part of the educational equality program.
The card aims to assist students to fulfill their educational necessities. "The students cannot use the cash to buy phone vouchers," Jokowi emphasized.
The president also witnessed the event to award certificates to teachers.
According to Jokowi, at least 62 thousand teachers in South Sulawesi Province had received certificates.
State Secretariat Minister Pratikno, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Social Minister Idrus Marham, and South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, among others, accompanied the president during the event.
