REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The world soccer governing body, FIFA has appointed the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya as the host of the U-20 World Cup in 2021. Speaking to the press Monday, Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said she was pleased to hear of the appointment of Surabaya as the host of the event and was ready to repay the trust.
Surabaya is ready to host the event, Risma said. She hope that by hosting the event, Surabaya’s children could fulfill their dream of being world-class football players.
Surabaya’s children can also be employed as ball boys and girls when the event is on, she said. "I will be pleased to see children walk hand-in-hand with the world’s players," she said.
After receiving the FIFA letter, the mayor received visits from several executive board members of the East Java chapter of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) to discuss preparations for the event.
