REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The initial phase of Jakarta's monorail would be constructed along the city's green line that connected Kuningan to Palmerah, said Edward Soeryadjaya, Presidet Commissioner PT Jakarta Monorail, in project's grounbreaking in Jakarta, Wednesday.
He explained the project was continued since all the conditions needed has been fulfilled. "Monorail system aims to provide alternative transportation to solve congestion in Jakarta," Soeryadjaya added.
For the people carriers, the system would use China trains manufactured by CNR Corporation Limited, a state-owned enterprise supervised by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. CNR is well known as one of the biggest train-makers for mass rapid transit system in its home country.
"The finalizing technical documents of rolling stock for monorail project is underwent," Soeryadjaya said.
Monorail's loop would be divided into two lines and will operate in some strategic areas in Jakarta.
The 14.3 kilometer green line with 16 stations will run from Palmerah to Kuningan over Sudirman Street. Meanwhile, the blue line devided into 14 stops will cover 13.7 kilometers tracks and operate from Kampung Melayu to Grogol.
