REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The health rights of children with special needs are an integral part of the human rights of every child. Children with special needs including those with physical, mental, or sensory disabilities have the same health rights. One of the health rights of children with special needs who are Muslim is circumcision.

Circumcision (circumcision) is one of the muakkadah (highly recommended) sunnah fitrah, some scholars argue the law is mandatory. Circumcision has health benefits because it removes limbs that are hiding places of dirt, viruses, and bacteria.

The results showed circumcision could reduce the risk of contracting HIV infection by 60 percent, Herpes by 28 percent, and HPV (Human Pappiloma Virus) by 35 percent.

Rumah Wakaf cooperates with Yayasan Bahagia Bantu Sesama, supporting the implementation of a mass circumcision for 25 children with special needs on Sunday, (10/12/2023) at the Islamic Dakwah Central Hall (Pusdai) Bandung. This mass circumcision is part of the celebration of the International Day of Disability organized by Yayasan Bumi Disabled Special (Budi), which has been active in fostering and providing assistance to disabled children in the Bandung area and its surroundings.

One of the participants in this mass circumcision was Emir Rafa Abdillah, 9 years old, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) at the age of 2. “The Emir is also hearing impaired or deaf. In the past, the Emir had a high fever and convulsions,” said the Emir's mother, Mayasari Febrianti.

“This activity is very helpful, because we are sure that there will be medical personnel who can meet the needs of our son. Thank you for the opportunity that has been given,” Mayasari said.

“Yayasan Bahagia Bantu Sesama (BBS) has one of the focuses of the Bantu Bantu Sesama program to help people with disabilities and children with special needs. Thank God to coincide with the International Day of Disability, we were able to collaborate with the Rumah Wakaf realize this mass circumcision,” said Yesi Mariska, Director of the BBS Foundation.

“Rumah Wakaf gathers special disabled people, in an effort to be able to provide the best assistance to the disabled community. One of the realizations of the program is the mass circumcision of these disabled children,” explained the Program Manager of the Rumah Wakaf, Munawir Muhammad Zam.
