REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged all citizens of Indonesia to support and respect whoever emerged victorious in the upcoming 2024 General Elections, as elected leaders reflect the voice of the people.

Amin then noted that some segments of Indonesian society might vote for those who end up losing in the 2024 presidential election.

However, he affirmed that those people will still be part of the nation while pushing election winners to embrace and protect them.

"This nation's commitment to paving the way for a better democracy should go beyond the conclusion of the elections. Continuous efforts are required to foster democracy. Everyone, including those in political parties, is responsible for this," he stressed.

The vice president then expressed hope that the 2024 General Elections would run successfully and help Indonesia improve the implementation of its democracy and affirm its image as one of the largest democracies in the world.

To that end, he affirmed that all people should collaborate and cooperate to ensure the smooth running of truly democratic elections.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has determined Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as the presidential and vice presidential pair number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as pair number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD as pair number 3.

The commission has also scheduled the campaign period from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024, and then the voting day on February 14, 2024.

The presidential and vice presidential candidates have participated in three rounds of debates organized by the KPU since December 2023 and will continue their campaign in the next two subsequent debates scheduled for January and February this year.
