REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KHOST -- About 20 Afghan civilians were killed while several others injured after a suicide car bomb struck near a foreign military base in Khost city, the capital of eastern Khost province on Sunday, an official said.
"Some 20 killed and 16 wounded were admitted to Khost city hospitals following Sunday's suicide attack," a medical source told Xinhua anonymously.
The death toll may further rise, the source noted.
The blast occurred at around 7:00 p.m. on a crowded road near the Chapman Camp, where gives house to the NATO-led Resolute Support mission forces, a security source said, adding that no foreign military personnel was harmed in the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched a yearly rebel offensive against the security forces.
The Taliban urged civilians to stay away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers regarded as the legitimate targets by militants besides warning people not to support the government.
Nearly 13,000 foreign forces are now stationed in the country and being involved in the RS mission.
