REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- In order to improve the services and protection quality for the Indonesian citizens that are living in Penang, Kedah and Perlis, Malaysia, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (Consulate) in Penang as the Citizens Service's Consulate has organized training program on consular and immigration issues in Teluk Bahang, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia on October 31, 2015.

"This event was organized in order to improve the capacity and understanding of all officers and staffs of the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang on consular and immigration issues faced by many Indonesian citizens in Malaysia," said Neni Kurniati, Consular Officer in Consulate General in Penang in her press release to republika.co.id Saturday (31/10).

According to her, the material learned in the training program, among others, including (1) victim identification for Indonesian citizens who are become victims of violence or involved in criminals law and the material regarding an effective method in handling cases of citizens who faces labor problems as well as other legal issues in Malaysia (2) Law of the Sea in Malaysia and International as well as the effective method in handling cases of Indonesian fishermen and seamen who has been caught in Malaysian territorial sea (3) The issue of citizenship and (4) the training program ends with the material on report mechanism

Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the number of citizens in the whole of Malaysia reached more than 2.5 million people. About 57 thousand of them are living in the territory area of the Consulate General in Penang including Penang, Kedah and Perlis area.
