REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jordanian government's spokesman, who is also concurrently the Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications, Mohammad Momani, said the government will install surveillance cameras (CCTVs) in the Al Aqsa/Al Haram Al Sharif Mosque.

A press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Amman, Jordan, received by Antara on Thursday reported this.

Momani further emphasized that Jordan has the right to install the cameras because the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, has custody of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in accordance with the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty signed in 1994.

The installation of surveillance cameras will allow 1.7 billion Muslims around the world to stay connected with one of the main Islamic holy places, and also see the worship being carried out there.

It will be the same as Muslims around the world seeing the Al-Haram Mosque through the cameras that broadcast pictures with through the Saudi Arabia TV (KSA) round the clock.

The record of the surveillance cameras at Al-Aqsa can also show all the violations being committed against the Palestinian people, as well as the attacks on the holy place of Islam by the Israeli army and authorities.

The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and the Jordanian Ministry of Waqaf (Mortmain Property) will be responsible for keeping the cameras operational that will monitor the area of 144 dunums (1 dunums Sham = 1.000 square meter), or 14,000 square meters.

The installation of the surveillance cameras shows that Jordan is very concerned about law enforcement, morals, and respect for religion.

It is expected that the installation of cameras will gain more support globally to safeguard the Islamic holy place from the offense and arbitrariness of Israel.
