REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The mosque councils of Indonesia and Iran will propose the 30th May as the International Day for Mosque in the OIC summit next year. Chairman of the Indonesian Mosques Council (DMI), Jusuf Kalla said he had met with Iranian Mosque Council, Muhammad Ali Akbari Javar on Tuesday.
"We are still discussing the plan to propose the 30th May as the international mosque day to the OIC and we choosing that day as a commemoration of the attack to the Masjidil Aqsa in Palestine by Zionist Israel," said Kalla.
Both figures discussed about the opportunities of cooperation to develop mosques in both countries. "We talked about how to explore the possibility of cooperation between both councils in good mosque management," Kalla said on Tuesday.
There are similarities between management of mosque in Indonesia and Iran. Instead of government, Usually local society play major role in the mosques.
Javar hopes both countries can make some agreements on the cooperation. Commenting on religious conflicts that lead to mosque destruction to many mosques in some parts of the world, Javar said that such behaviour was an attempt to interfere religious life of Islam.
"It does not come from Islamic community. Unfortunately, such violence are perpetrated by people in the name of Islam," he said.
