REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) stated that Indonesia still needed foreign teachers to enrich Islamic education. The ulama argued that foreign teachers could teach Arabic language.

Previously, Ministry of Manpower banned foreign workers to teach Theology of every religion in every school and university in Indonesia. The policy is aimed to prevent radicalism.

"Foreign teachers help us. For instance, as a native Arabic speaker, they will motivate students to learn Arabic language," Head of Foreign Relations at MUI, Muhyidin Junaidi, said recently.

He said that government overreacted. The number of foreign workers teaching Theology in Indonesia is also not significant. "It would be better for government to solve the problem of Indonesian workers," he said.
