REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - International Labour Organization (ILO) targets Indonesia and other five Asian countries in green jobs project. Green jobs project, initiated by ILO, is aimed to create environmental friendly jobs among the better economic growth.

ILO sees Indonesia's stable economic growth possibly damage the environment because of poor knowledge towards nature conservation. The project is a part of ILO's effort to help realize the potential for green jobs and a positive labour market transition in the face of climate change. It also contributes to a low-carbon development, adaptation to the impacts of climate change, and reducing environmental impacts of enterprises and economic sectors.

"Asia and Pacific countries must understand the concept of green jobs as a priority to develop their economic growth," said the Senior Environment and Decent Work Specialist at ILO, Vincent Jugault, on Green Jobs Conference in Surabaya on Wednesday.

ILO focuses on improving environmental friendly jobs in some developing countries with well economic growth. The aim is to strengthen the green job policy in five countries; Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippine, and Sri Lanka.

Apart from the aforementioned countries, the conference was also attended by China, Fiji, India, Malaysia, and Thailand. Those ten countries were given green jobs model developed by Green Jobs ILO in Asian Project.

The Director General of Productivity in the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Wahab Bangkona, said Indonesia had implemented development strategy which supported green job with pro-growth, pro-job, pro-poor, and pro-environment concepts.
