‘Global March to Jerussalem’ departs for Pakistan to join Desmond Tutu and other VIPs

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – At least 27 Indonesian delegates departed for Karachi in Pakistan on Friday to join “Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ)”. From Pakistan, the convoy will travel by land then join with millions of activists in Jordan border on March 30, 2012.

Indonesian delegation consists of some activists from Aqsa Working Group and Voice of Palestine (VoP), a medical team of Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), student, and journalists form Republika, MetroTV, and TVOne. According to Executive Director of VoP, Ir Mujtahid Hashem, there some more delegations would follow suit and to meet in Teheran, Istanbul, Beirut, and Jordan. 

“The land travel is very important to gather support from every country we visit during the journey,” he said in a ceremony.

In the same occasion, Yakhsyallah Mansur from Aqsha Working Group (AWG) delivered his message to the delegation. “Starts the journey with Bismillah and thank God that you have been chosen to be the defenders for religion and humanity as well. Depend on God only, then let Him decides the rest,” he said.

Dr Joserizal Jurnalis, SpOT, from Mer-C added, “GMJ is pivotal part to diminish the reputation built by Zionist,” he said. 

 

Some VIPs join GMJ

GMJ is a global movement aims at drawing supports from all over the world to Palestinian causes. GMJ's of North American mentioned in its official site, "the movement aims to oppose Israeli apartheid and ethnic cleansing, to demand access to Jerusalem for all peoples, and to uphold Palestinian rights under international law, including refugees' right of return."

The message in GMJ's offical site writes, "We, the Advisory Board of the Global March to Jerusalem, are alarmed and deeply troubled by the continuing repression of Palestinians in Jerusalem and by the deliberate and systematic attempts to expel and reduce the Christian and Muslim Palestinian population of the city as part of the policy called 'Judaisation,' which is being applied to every part of historic Palestine..."

Among members of the Advisory Board of the Global March to Jerusalem are some prominent figures at international level and from different faiths, such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu (a Nobel Peace Laureate), George Galloway (former Member of British Parliament and Founder of Viva Palestina), Louis Vitale (Order of Franciscan Monks; Pace e Bene; nonviolent resistor), Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb (Jewish Renewal Movement), and dozens others.
