Batang coal steam power plant solves land acquisition challenges

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Finance II, Mahendra Siregar said that challenges on land acquisition in Batang coal steam power plant project in Central Javahad been solved and the land was on certification process.

"The land is in certification process and we expect to be finished soon," Siregar said recently.

Siregar said that central government and local government were fully committed to support the project. The power plant has capacity of 2x1,000 mega watt (MW). 

Batang power plant is expected to provide job opportunities and economic growth for its community. The project is important to provide electricity supply in Java. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) also commits to keep funding this project. Result of environmental impact assessment has been completed.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa expressed his expectation that  groundbreaking construction of Batang power plant can be done this year. He said land acquisition related problems could be solved using social cultural approach.
