REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A new Australian sports program that has taught more than 250 Indonesian children to skateboard is rolling east to Surabaya and Bali. The “Skate Jam” program has brought Australian skateboard coaches to Indonesia for the first time to share skills and tips with Indonesian skaters and youth.

The program also brings professional skateboarders from skate and surfwear company DC Jakes Hayes, Bugs Fardell, Casey Ainsworth, Deni TX and Pevi Permana. It will feature FREE “Learn to Skateboard” lessons, demos by the DC pro skaters, awesome giveaways and prizes.

Greg Moriarty, Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia said in written statement, “Many of the Indonesian youth participating in the Learn to Skateboard workshops are from schools built by aid projects funded by the Australian Government.” 

“I hope Skate Jam introduces these young Indonesians to another aspect of Australia’s support for their education through safe and fun sports.”

More than 250 children from Bandung and Jakarta have joined the skateboard lessons. Skate Jam goes to Surabaya on 15 May and in Bali on 17 and 18 May.

 Skate Jam brings Skateboarding Australia (SbA) together with DC and the Australian Embassy, Jakarta, to promote a great sport and an active lifestyle for young people. Skate Jam will provide loans of skateboarding equipment and safety gear and instruction by experienced Australian skateboarders. SbA is training Indonesian skaters to become the country’s first-ever accredited skate instructors.
