Facebook-XL to improve network performance

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Facebook - the largest social networking site in the world - cooperates with PT XL Axiata and Ericsson to improve network performance. The project, which is produced by Internet.org has increased network performance up to 70 percent in XL's application coverage.

Vice President of Internet.org, Chris Daniels said that this partnership aimed to link up two-third of the world's population who do not have internet connection.

"We have a model to improve the network performance that can be applied globally through a network operator in the world. We would be more efficient in using network capacity and available resources," Daniels said in Jakarta on Monday.

This partnership creates a new methodology to calculate and improve the network performance through end to end system. This joint project will develop a framework to evaluate the network performance by using a key performance indicators (KPI) based on simulation on Facebook application using a test agent and connected through KPI statistic.

According to CEO of XL Axiata Hasnul Suhaimi, this cooperation combines operators, technology providers and network providers and becoming the first application in the world.

"We are optimistic that this application coverage is the most important thing. The network-wide statistics at Facebook application has been proven to be an innovative and efficient way to detect and optimize telecommunication networks and applications," Suhaimi said. Satya Festiani/Mutia Ramadhani
