Minister: 62 thousand cooperatives in Indonesia are inactive

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG –- Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, said that 62 thousand cooperatives in Indonesia were inactive.

"There are 147 thousand active cooperatives with online system," he said, at the commemoration of the 68th Cooperative Day in Bandar Lampung, Monday (24/8).

He explained that 147 thousand of cooperative were in good condition and still can perform activities. Those cooperatives already have a cooperative identification numbers and online system, while the other 62 thousand cooperatives were not included in the renewal data base because those were considered as inactive.

The Government is actively campaigning the cooperative by increasing number of interest of citizens to become members of the cooperative and improving the quality of management. In addition, the government has to reform license and manufacture of cooperative identification numbers.

"the main number of cooperative can be taken in the district with one single license," he explained.

Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises have also been updating the data base to improve the quality of cooperative management. Renewal of the data base will be the first step of improving the quality of co-operatives in Indonesia.

"To support the plan, the ministry is in coordination with the provincial governments and district and municipal governments throughout Indonesia," he said.
