REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's customs and excise receipts in the year ending February 29, 2016 reached Rp8.1 trillion, fueled by the income performance in the import duty sector, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise said.

The customs and excise receipts consisted of import duty worth Rp5.4 trillion and export tax worth Rp383.7 billion, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise said in a statement released Thursday.

The customs and excise receipts in the past couple of months fell compared to the same period last year when the figure was recorded at Rp22.5 trillion comprising import duty worth Rp4.7 trillion, excise worth Rp17.3 trillion and export tax worth Rp500 billion, the office said.

The realized customs and excise receipts were normally low in the beginning of every year, Director General of Customs and Excise Heru Pambudi said recently in response to the provisional customs and excise receipts.

Customs and excise receipts remained steady in February due to the absence of more significant sources of revenues from customs and excise receipts, Pambudi said.

"I think import duties in February were still normal. There should have been an increase in orders for excise tapes. Export tax depends on the certainty about mineral and coal exports," he said.

The Directorate General of Customs and Excise will make an all-out effort to raise customs and excise receipts in the 10 remaining months by cracking down on contraband, he said.
