REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Widjajono Partowidagdo, passed away while climbing Tambora Mountain, Nusa Tenggara Barat, the Spokesman of the Ministry, Susyanto, said on Saturday.
“Indonesia has lost one of its best,” he said. He has not yet known the cause of death. “He felt suffocated. He may suffer from heart attack,” Susyanto added.
Partowidagdo passed away after the evacuation to post 1 in Tambora. He was in critical condition when being evacuated from post 2 to post 1, at the lower height. Medical team tried to help him, but they failed.
The evacuation process was facing some difficulties due to bad weather. He added, the bad climbing terrain also affected the evacuation. He was evacuated using a helicopter owned by Newmont Company.
His body, according to plan, will be taken from Sumbawa to Jakarta. He then will be rested at his residence in Jakarta before taken to San Diego Hill cemetery in Karawang.
Widjajono Partowidagdo is a professor in Faculty of Technique at Bandung Technology Institute (ITB). He was born in Magelang on September 16, 1951. He became the vice minister since October 2011.
His modesty and unique personality leave deep impression to everyone knows him. He was also known for his smart idea on fuel. His idea was to use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) instead of fuel oil.
