REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gets some criticisms over his decision on picking up Roy Suryo as the new Minister of Youth and Sports. Among other, criticism comes from Saleh Partaonan Daulay, a figure in Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah.
"I regret that SBY did not explain his reason. He only said that Roy Suryo had passed several tests," Daulay said on Friday.
He predicted that about 80 percent of people doubting Roy Suryo in his ability to solve problems of youth and sports in Indonesia. "People's doubt is not answered during his annoucement," he said.
Roy Suryo is an expert of telematics and technological information. So far, he does not have any background on sports. "No wonder if people think that the decision is based on only President's prerogative right," he said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially announced Roy Suryo as the new Minister of Youth and Sports during press conference on Friday. The former minister, Andi Mallarangeng, stepped down from his office as he was named as a suspect of Hambalang graft case.
