REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - An urban analyst, Irwansyah, predicts floods still affect the capital city Jakarta until the next ten years due to the infrastructure development imbalance.
"The imbalance between infrastructure development and the nature growth is wide and as an impact, floods will still affect Jakarta," Irwansyah said on Saturday.
He explained that the canals is not enough as a flood prevention for Jakarta. The city also lacks of open green space. Central and Local Government must cooperate with inhabitants to form mechanism of flood management by implementing technical development and continuing information for public.
"For instance is the socialization of flood map in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi," he exampled.
Government must also actively inform people on how to overcome problems when floods hit. Irwansyah added that government must develop post-disaster management to anticipate water-borne diseases.
